About

My name is Mary Clayson and I love to teach! Currently, I am teaching English to Chinese students and I have loved it for the past three years. I have my Masters in Education and I have been a teacher since 2005. I have taught many different ages (2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th grades) and children in different situations through that time.  I felt constantly like there was something better I could be doing in some part of my instruction. Each year I felt that I was doing a better job and reaching more of my students. I still wish I could go back and teach the children I did at the beginning of my career with the knowledge I have now! But alas, we just move forward.

One book that changed my teaching drastically was Dr. Keirsey's book Please Understand Me II. This book discussed a personality typing system and how each person falls into one of the four main types and then one of the four subtypes of that group. When reading my type, I was floored at how accurate it was and how understood I felt! After researching this and discussing for a while with my husband (the one who introduced me to the book), I started to think about how this could change my teaching! If I could figure out the main group of each student, I would have a huge insight into what drove them and start to individualize instruction and management for them! My mind was blown!

I was so excited and started to observe my students and was surprised by how quickly I was starting to realize their main type and how it was already giving ideas on how to teach them better! I started noticing how much it seemed to help my students; they were being drawn into each lesson as I worked to individualize even group lessons to help them. It was fantastic to see!

It wasn't too long ago that my husband suggested that I help other teachers and parents start to have access to this information to help their kids learn better and have a better relationship with them through a blog or website of some kind. I honestly felt overwhelmed and it has taken me a while to actually dive in. Well, here I go! I hope you can find something that helps you out with your class, students, children, friends, family, or even just yourself!
