Push Play- The Podcast That Changed the Way I Think of Play for EVERYONE

So podcasts have become one of my new favorite things to listen to. I love to learn and I have felt a little stunted in this endeavor since I stopped teaching school. My friend introduced me to podcasts and it has brought back that love of learning! It has been wonderful!!!

One podcast in particular has caught my attention. If you have ever watched a TED Talk, you know how interesting they can be. On NPR they have a TED Radio Hour where they fill an hour with parts of TED Talks that have similar subject matter. The other day my friend told me to listen to Push Play. She stated it as a paradigm shift for her and I completely had to agree after listening to it.

The screenshots below show the five people they talk to and a synopsis of their TED Talks they refer to during the hour. The link to the talk is at NPR.org.

What I was the most surprised about is that so much of this podcast was talking about how important play is for everyone, especially adults who don't play or don't play as much as they should. I've always been a huge advocate for children playing, but now I am a huge advocate of play for everyone!!!

I was also surprised to learn how play helps us to feel empathy for others. Children learn empathy through play; we feel more empathy as we play with each other, even as adults. I never knew what a crucial role it plays in our development.

If you are struggling with depression, illness, stress, etc., they explain how some amount of play with help treat these issues and help with your outlook. I recommend everyone to listen to this podcast, even if you don't have kids. I hope it will have the same paradigm shift for you as it did for me!
